Following the week before the ‘control the nation’ Derren Brown shown us he can infact guess the lottery numbers. I can instantly smell bullshit over it.

Here is why

  1. He tried to mislead us into believing its about number probabilities, adding the extra touch of getting all them people involved. It made it seem an official experiment.
  2. My only observation is that it could be a split screen with artificial camera shaking.
  3. The Lotto draw closes its machines approx 30~ minutes before the draw (need certification). So he could of shown us the numbers 5 minutes before was live as no one could of done a thing. He didn’t.
  4. Same with the experiment, he could of shown the numbers to them as they couldn’t of purchased a ticket in time.

Font of the moment is Helvetica Neue

Helvetica Neue, awesome font for designers.I usually have a font that I like to use for a few projects, before I move onto another corporate font. My choice for September is Helvetica Neue. Its like Arial / Helvetica but with a funky feel to it. Its the font of choice for the iPhone applications (on which I discovered the font in designing apps). Even this site uses Helvetica Neue, but if you don’t have it installed by default (i.e. Windows) as its preinstalled on Apple osX 10.5+. If your lucky enough to have the font use it. It rocks.

New brand for King of Fighters

I recently designed a new brand for a up-and-coming new tournament coming in October. Its called King of Fighters. The site should be live pretty soon so keep your eyes peeled at www.koftournament.com

Aion, is it all hype or will it turn heads?

People are hailing the new MMO on the block to knock off millions as ‘Aion’. Unfortunately I’m not going to pay for this game until I’ve seen reviews. I’ve wasted so much money this month on Champions Online and Warhammer Online. So if it gets the green light I will be jumping right in.

If you get Channel 4 in the UK you may have watched Derren Brown: Control the nation on Friday night. I myself love subliminal techniques, making you think or do something without actually being told. A classic subliminal technique is advertising, you don’t know it but stunts like feeling hungry after watching a food commercial. I’ve done it many of times where your perfectly fine watching tv and then bam, you see a cereal commercial. Next minute I’m raiding the fridge looking for milk for my cereal. OK this isn’t directly subliminal but you don’t know your really doing it. Its just impulses triggers a chain of events.

I first knew about subliminal techniques when my old employer tried getting me to add *flash* words on the homepage of his business site. Adding words such as ‘Call’ & ‘Professional’. Funnily enough the business was a success. I dived into research as its in fact illegal to do as its against human rights, so I was surprised it was to be shown on TV live (or was it).

Is World of Warcraft lying about its 11.5 million subscribers

11.5 million subscribers, my arse

Could World of Warcraft be a victim of white lies? well they keep on bragging about the 11 million subscribers. Surely times 11,000,000 with the monthly subscription + games sold would equal a crazy amount of money monthly. The merge with Activision, if they are making crazy amounts monthly why merge?

Personally I think its figures they are using from free trials to lost subscribers added to the list. I myself have 4 accounts (3 for myself and 1 for my wife). I used to dual box for fun, as I was so bored leveling my 6th character to 70.

Finding the maximum players that can appear on a server, apparently its 20,000 but Blizzard have never released the official numbers. (Source)

Warhammer Online 1 year on since open beta review

champions_logoI’m going through cold turkey at the moment, I’ve stopped playing World of Warcraft for nearly 10 months. I played WoW since the launch back in 2004 and nothing compares. Its making me feel sick, as I want to move and enjoy other MMO’s. There is always this wall in front of me, if it doesnt feel like WoW I cannot adapt. Its like coming off drugs.

I’ve not touched an MMO since World of Warcraft, but some other new MMO’s were hitting the shelves. I took the plunge and dived in.

Champions Online

I never played City of Heroes before Champions Online, I had been following it since it was suppose to be Marvel Online Universe. But when Microsoft and Marvel pulled the plug, they went for an untouched IP ‘Champions’. I never played any of the role playing games before so it was an interested take. I instantly purchased this game when the retail servers went live. Crazy downtime but was shocked on how great the character creation was, this was a game in its own right. Creating such diverse characters is awesome. The game is very good also, takes you through a tutorial and is very very different from other fantasy MMO’s like World of Warcraft. The game is good, but feels very unfinished. I was downloading a 80~mb patch daily with fixes.
